August 10 2007 -Car containers join CMA CGM fleet.
CMA CGM is introducing new car-carrying containers outfitted with a system of sliding, retractable ramps.
The 40-foot containers can transport up to four vehicles of any kind and represent a breakthrough in automobile transport.
This new innovation offers a containerized alternative to shipping cars on car carrier vessels.
It makes service to secondary ports easier and is more responsive to the needs of automobile exporters in terms of shipping schedules and flow.
These new car-carrying containers make door-to-door service possible without breaking bulk.
Vehicles leave the production line and arrive directly at distribution centers with no handling in between.
This protects cars from damages due to handling or weather and theft. In addition, the system is retractable so that the containers can be used for other purposes.
The first lot of two hundred 40-foot car-carrying containers is being built and is scheduled to be added to the fleet in late August 2007.
CMA CGM plans to purchase additional car-carrying containers by the end of the year, to meet its customers’ needs.

February 2 2007 - Overweight surchare introduced on imports form North China.
On behalf of CMA CGM S.A. we would like to inform all parties concerned about introduction of
overweight surcharge applicable on NCX Service.
The surcharge is to apply for all 20'feet containers loaded at Dalian, Xingang, Qingdao, Lianyungang, Yantai
as form CMA CGM BALZAC v. NX302W (ets Tianjin/Xingang 11/02/2007)

- from 14 up to 20 tons including container tare: USD 125 / 20
- over 20 tons including container tare: USD 300 / 20
The overweight surcharge is a consequence of a surplus of heavy 20'ft containres booked in Norh China ports, which unabled the line to optimise capacity and

MacAndrews & Co Ltd. wish to advise that following implementation of the new Marpol regulations in May of this year, the situation has now developed to a point where MacAndrews find that they can no longer absorb increased fuel costs.
Marpol 73/78 Annex VI is a legal requirement for ships entering the Baltic Sea to reduce exhaust emissions and atmospheric pollution. This can only be achieved by using low sulphur fuel which is more expensive than ordinary vessel fuel.
In line with other operators MacAndrews are therefore left with no alternative but to revise their current fuel surcharge so as to reflect the Marpol directive.
Therefore with effect from vessels loading in Poland or UK on or after 5th October 2006 our current level of BAF will be increased by GBP 5.00 per TEU.
