Cma Cgm The French Line were founded as a result of a merger between private shipping company COMPAGNE MARITIME D'AFFRETEMENT (CMA) and the largest French national shipowner COMPAGNE GENERALE MARITIME (CGM).

CMA started operating their service within the Mediterranean area in 1978. In 1987 the direct link connecting Northern Europe with Far East was opened, and in 1997 the service linking Europe with India and Pakistan was launched.

CGM, on the other hand, had been one of the oldest European shipowners, that originally started their services between Europe and the French overseas territories in the middle of 19th century.

In 1996 CGM were privatized and soon after that, in 1999 the group CMA CGM were founded.

Today, CMA CGM are the fifth largest container shipping group worldwide, operating 153 vessels of total capacity 304.000 teu.

Moreover, the fleet is being constantly developed - as from 2006 the shipowner plans to introduce 21 new vessels of capacity from 5700 to 8200 teu each.

The wide range of CMA CGM services covers most of the ports worldwide.

Regular liner services connect ports of Europe with following regions:

"Line Schedules - Zone to Zone" - informs about dates of sailing and arrival of all CMA CGM vessels
"Routing Finder - Port to Port" - displays all connections and transit times from port of loading to port of discharge
